The sun shone on York Pride Saturday 30th May 2026. LNER, Transpennine Express and Northern collaborated to deliver a wonderful day for scores of people from the sector: the National Railway Museum, Network Rail and several others all also had a contingent in the parade, alongside Journey of course.

For many of the attendees, the day began with the 08:03 LNER departure from London Kings Cross where a coach was devoted to all things Pride and decked out accordingly, rainbow beigels were served alongside nosecco and after stopping along the way to pick up more York-bound people, we enjoyed a fabulous on-board quiz and raffle hosted by Robbie.

Upon arrival in York everyone congregated at the stunning Milner Hotel next to the station before heading off to the parade starting point at St Sampson's Square. The parade moved off, and it was immediately a contrast to an event like Pride in London with the parade passing shoppers in the city centre with no barriers and wonderful interactions all the way. After crossing the Ouse and leaving the city walls, the parade passed along Bishopthorpe Road as it headed towards the celebration at Knavesmire. It was stunning to pass along a residential street where every other house had hung flags, bunting, and streamers to welcome the parade with residents in their front gardens cheering the parade along. There were so many touching interactions between the parade and locals, with LNER colleagues handing out flags and sweets. Southlands Methodist Church had a progress pride flag in the window and a rainbow-tinsel cross out front... in a climate of so much intolerance and hatred, it was a beautiful antidote.

The parade ended at Knavesmire where there was a final photo-call for the biggest-yet transport industry attendance at York Pride, where Tracey Barber from LNER rightly ensured Carter Goodby was acknowledged for all of his hard work alongside the LNER network and those from TPE and Northern to ensure the day was a stunning success. Thanks so much to everyone involved, and for kindly opening the event up to people across the industry.
