About the Event
Welcome to the London LGBTQ+ Transport pride month picnic!
In collaboration with Journey, the LGBTQ+ network for the transport industry, the networks of the Department for Transport and KPMG would love to invite you to a Pride month picnic for all LGBT+ networks and colleagues in the transport sector on Thursday 12th June in St James's Park, London! Please share this invite with your networks.
We'll be gathering from 6pm onwards, and encouraging everyone to get chatting in a relaxed, informal setting with your transport sector pals! Some drinks and nibbles will be provided and you’re welcome to bring your own 😊
This edition of our annual picnic is particularly special as it’s two days after what would have been Terry Higgins’ 80th birthday. In honour of this, we’ll be fundraising for the Terrence Higgins Trust, with a raffle and donations welcome through our JustGiving page.
Dan Glass will read some words sent by Rupert Whitaker (Terrence's partner) and will be joined by Peter Scott-Presland who will share their story. We will hear about the Homosexual Law Reform Society who had their first public meeting of 1,000 people in Caxton Hall next to the park in 1960, bringing the cause of decriminalisation into the public spotlight for the first time.
Find linked here, a limited-space, donations-encouraged queer walking tour of the area by the wonderful Dan Glass for the transport community, which will be starting earlier in the evening and finishing at our picnic.
For the picnic, we'll be located in the corner of the park closest to The Mall/Horse Guards Parade (Colicci Memorial Kiosk is a good prompt for Google maps!), and we'll have pride flags to make it clear who we are. The closest stations are St James's Park, Westminster and Charing Cross, all within a walk of 10 minutes or less.
If the weather forecast in unfavourable, we will update with an alternative weatherproof venue much nearer to the day.
