About the Event

Join OUTbound as they hand over to Gulliver Ralston from Fighting with Pride

He will be talking about the experience on LGBTQ+ military under the ‘gay ban’ (1976-2000) and the government’s attempt to redress this following the overturning of the ban at the European Court of Human Rights (1999) and the Etherton Report (2023).  This subsequently saw the UK government issue an apology in the House of Commons.

In particular, he will be talking about the need for current LGBTQ+ allies and networks to encourage veterans to apply for the Financial and Non-Financial recognition schemes run by the MOD which came from this.  The deadline is December this year, so there is a small window to bring partial closure to those wronged by government policy.

Gulliver himself, his partner is a serving infantry officer whose first 13 years were served under the ban.  He is a musician and psychotherapist and has been working with LGBTQ+ military veterans in London and Scotland for the charity Fighting with Pride.
